Ice caves

 Ice caves

The ice caves are 28 miles from Rexburg and a great way to spend time in Rexburg during the warm summer months. The ice caves are open all year round and fun to explore. These caves used to be lava hot tubes but then became ice.

If you are going to the ice caves for the first time, it is important to dress very warmly. The caves are icy and can be cold inside. Remember to wear clothes that you are okay with getting dirty. It is important to bring a flashlight and wear snowshoes. The ice caves have tight spaces and it is not ideal for people who may be claustrophobic. Another thing that you should bring is warm gloves.

The ice caves have ice that can be 3 to 6 inches thick. There are walls of ice surrounding the entire cave. There is not a ton of room for standing up in the cave and you may need to crawl at some points. This cave is unique because it looks like a palace inside. If you are going to the cave, prepare to spend 3+ hours visiting.

It is important to remember that these roads are bumpy. Bring the right kind of car that can handle bumpy roads. It is also important to have directions pulled up on your phone because you might lose cell service. If you haven't been to these ice caves, they are one of the coolest things to see!
