Civil defense caves

 Civil Defense Caves

The civil defense caves are large tubes formed from lava. These caves are located 24 miles from Rexburg. When you get to the caves, they will be cold. When you are climbing into the cave, it may be a little rocky. Once you are in the cave, the floor is flat, and they are really easy to explore. The caves are dark and made up of rocks.

When you are planning on going to the civil defense caves, remember to bring a flashlight and dress warmly. There may be ice at the entrance to the caves. It is important to bring a vehicle that is great for off-roading. The road is bumpy and you may get mud on your car.

The civil defense cave is a great place to bring friends and go exploring. It is a fun outdoor adventure, and it is a unique sight to see. In the cave, people often like to walk through the cave and look around. One fun activity is hide and seek. Another thing you can do is bring glowsticks for extra light. College kids like to play glow-in-the-dark tag.

These caves are fun for all ages and open most months of the year. If you go during the wintertime, look out for snow that might be on the road. During the summer, this is a great way to escape the heat.

Directions

1. To get to the civil defense caves, hop on the Salem highway and go North 16.6 miles past the sand dunes.

2. On the side of the road past the sand dunes, there will be a sign on the right-hand side indicating that it is the road to the caves.

3. Drive on the road and three miles in there is a fork. Turn left. After one mile, you should reach the cave.
